Go With the Flow…

When you tend to resist what life is having you go through, it becomes harder with every moment.  Consider the following two scenarios (based on true stories):

1.  You are traveling overseas to get to a meeting.  Your flight is cancelled that afternoon.  You are frustrated, angry, struggling with how you are going to delay all your plans by one full day.  There is no other flight that day to get you where you need to go.  The next morning you get to the airport and find out your flight is delayed again… you may miss the connection for the overseas flight.  You decide to be frustrated and angry at the airlines again despite it being the summer weather that is unpredictable.  How long you stay frustrated and mad versus making the best of it is up to you.

2.  You are traveling overseas to get to a meeting.  Your flight is cancelled.  You decide you have an extra evening  (that you would have spent on a plane) to look up an old friend.  You reconnect, have some laughs, get a good night sleep and head to the airport the next day.  You arrive to find out the direct flight overseas now has available seats so you will be able to get on that one instead of going via a connection that would have gotten you there even later.  Based on the choice you made the night before to approach the situation that life dealt you with opportunity (to reconnect with friends), life continued to provide new options for you.

Going with the flow is not always easy but it can pay off in ways you least expect.  Try it some time…
